Arbaʽeen

Arbaʽeen is a major Shi’a Muslim observance held forty days after Ashura. It commemorates Imam Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, and those killed at the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE. Many communities mark the day through mourning rituals, prayers, service to others and pilgrimage, especially to Karbala in Iraq.

Event Suggestions:
• Learning about Karbala, Ashura and Arbaʽeen through respectful discussion
• Exploring mourning rituals, pilgrimage and service traditions in Shi’a communities
• Listening to devotional recitations or stories with guided cultural context
