28 January

World Leprosy Day

World Leprosy Day raises awareness of leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, and advocates for the dignity and equal treatment of people affected by it. Observed on the last Sunday of January, the day challenges stigma, misinformation, and historical misconceptions about the disease. It also highlights the importance of healthcare access, education, compassion, and the right to live free from discrimination.

Event Suggestions:
• Create an awareness display about Hansen’s disease, stigma, and respectful language
• Discuss how health misinformation can lead to discrimination and exclusion
• Explore stories of care, advocacy, and dignity for people affected by leprosy
