19 August

World Humanitarian Day

World Humanitarian Day is observed on 19 August to honour humanitarian workers and communities affected by crisis. The date marks the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, where aid workers were killed. The day recognises the courage of humanitarian workers, remembers those who have lost their lives and raises awareness of the need to protect people delivering aid.

Event Suggestions:
• Creating a tribute display honouring humanitarian workers and affected communities
• Discussing humanitarian principles such as humanity, neutrality and impartiality
• Supporting awareness activities for aid, protection and community care
