Vaishakha Amavasya is observed during the Hindu month of Vaishakha and is associated with fasting, prayer, charity and remembrance of ancestors through rituals such as Pitru Tarpan. The day is also used for self-reflection, meditation and spiritual renewal in some Hindu communities.
