17 October
Spirit Day is an annual LGBTQIA+ awareness day that responds to bullying and supports young people in the LGBTQIA+ community. Started in 2010 by Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan and promoted by GLAAD, the day encourages people to wear purple as a sign of solidarity. It also honours those affected by bullying and encourages safer, more inclusive communities.
Event Suggestions:
• Wearing purple and creating messages of support for LGBTQIA+ young people
• Hosting conversations about allyship, inclusion, and respectful language
• Building a pledge wall focused on kindness, safety, and belonging
