Respect for the Aged Day

Respect for the Aged Day, known in Japan as Keirō no Hi, is observed on the third Monday of September. The public holiday honours older people, recognises their contributions and encourages intergenerational respect and care. Families and communities may mark the day through visits, gifts, shared meals, volunteer activities and local celebrations.

Event Suggestions:
• Creating thank-you cards or appreciation displays for older community members
• Sharing intergenerational stories, memories or skills
• Learning about Keirō no Hi and traditions of respect, care and community connection in Japan
