Nativity Fast begins

Nativity Fast marks the beginning of a period of spiritual preparation before Christmas in many Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic traditions. The observance encourages prayer, self-discipline, charity and reflection in anticipation of the Nativity of Jesus Christ. Practices vary between traditions, but many communities combine fasting with worship, acts of generosity and preparation for the Christmas season.

Event Suggestions:
• Learning about the meaning and traditions of the Nativity Fast through respectful storytelling and discussion
• Listening to sacred music while exploring the spiritual and cultural significance of the season
• Creating reflective crafts inspired by the symbols and traditions associated with the Nativity
