Mabo Day (Australia)

Mabo Day commemorates Mer Island man Eddie Koiki Mabo and the landmark 1992 High Court decision that overturned the doctrine of terra nullius in Australia. The decision recognised native title and affirmed the enduring connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country. Observed during National Reconciliation Week, Mabo Day is marked through community events, education and reflection across Australia.

Event Suggestions:
• Explore Eddie Mabo’s legacy and the native title decision
• Create a timeline of land rights and reconciliation milestones
• Share Torres Strait Islander culture, stories and perspectives respectfully
