26 December
Kwanzaa is a seven-day African American and pan-African celebration of family, community, and culture, created in 1966 by Dr Maulana Karenga. The festival is centred on seven guiding principles, including unity, self-determination, collective work, purpose, creativity, and faith. It is marked through candle lighting, storytelling, music, shared meals, reflection, and community gatherings that honour heritage and connection.
Event Suggestions:
• Explore the seven principles of Kwanzaa through discussion or a classroom display
• Create artwork or symbols inspired by family, community, and cultural heritage
• Share music, stories, or foods connected to African American and pan-African traditions
