K9 Veterans Day

K9 Veterans Day is observed annually on March 13th, a day dedicated to honoring the brave dogs who have served alongside military personnel, law enforcement officers, and emergency responders. K9 veterans are loyal and highly trained animals, and many have saved lives through their unwavering courage and dedication. Founded by Vietnam War veteran and K9 trainer Joe White, K9 Veterans Day commemorates the service and sacrifice of the United States military and its working dogs. March 13th was chosen because it marks the official founding of the U.S. Army K9 Unit in 1942. Over the years, the significance of this day has grown, highlighting the multifaceted roles these dogs play both in and outside of combat.
