25 June

International Day of the Seafarer

Created in 2011 and now observed by the UN, Day of the Seafarer recognises the contribution of seafarers to global trade, transport and everyday life. The day also raises awareness of challenges faced by maritime workers, including safety, isolation, piracy and access to fair working conditions. It encourages appreciation for the people who keep ships, ports and supply chains moving.

Event Suggestions:
• Map global shipping routes and the role of seafarers
• Discuss safety, isolation and wellbeing at sea
• Create a thank-you display for maritime workers
