International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime

Established by the UN in 2015, this day marks the anniversary of the 1948 Genocide Convention, the first human rights treaty adopted by the United Nations. It honours victims of genocide, raises awareness of the Convention, and encourages education, remembrance, and action to prevent genocide and protect human dignity.

Event Suggestions:
• Hold a respectful remembrance activity focused on dignity and prevention
• Explore the purpose of the Genocide Convention using age-appropriate resources
• Create a reflection wall about human rights, memory, and responsibility
