24 March

International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims

This United Nations observance honours the right to truth concerning serious human rights violations and the dignity of victims. It also pays tribute to Archbishop Óscar Arnulfo Romero of El Salvador, who was killed in 1980 after speaking out against injustice and violence. The day encourages remembrance, accountability and respect for victims and their families.

Event Suggestions:
• Discuss why truth, memory and accountability matter after human rights violations
• Learn about Archbishop Óscar Romero and his advocacy for vulnerable communities
• Create a respectful reflection activity focused on dignity and justice
