12 February
International Day Against the Use of Child Soldiers, also known as Red Hand Day, raises awareness of the recruitment and use of children in armed conflict. The day highlights the serious harm caused to children and the importance of protection, recovery, education, and human rights. It calls on governments, organisations, and communities to support action that keeps children safe from conflict and exploitation.
Event Suggestions:
• Create a human rights display about child protection and the impacts of armed conflict
• Discuss how education, safety, and community support protect children’s wellbeing
• Use age-appropriate resources to reflect on peacebuilding and children’s rights
