Established in 2014 by Dr Brian May, Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart, filmmaker Grig Richters and B612 Foundation President Danica Remy, Asteroid Day educates the public about asteroids, planetary defence and the emerging space economy. The date marks the anniversary of the 1908 Tunguska event in Siberia and has been recognised by the UN since 2016.
