14 October

Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is observed in many parts of the United States on the second Monday of October. It honours Indigenous peoples, histories, cultures, and contributions while encouraging reflection on colonisation, resilience, sovereignty, and the continuing presence of Indigenous communities.

Event Suggestions:
• Create a respectful display about Indigenous histories, cultures, and sovereignty
• Discuss why some communities observe Indigenous Peoples’ Day instead of Columbus Day
• Learn from Indigenous voices, art, stories, and local histories where appropriate
