Independence Day (Haiti)

Independence Day in Haiti commemorates the country’s independence from France on 1 January 1804 after a long revolution against colonial rule and slavery. Haiti became the first independent Black republic and one of the first nations to permanently abolish slavery through its independence. The day is both a national celebration and a powerful moment for reflecting on freedom, resilience, and self-determination.

Event Suggestions:
• Create a timeline of the Haitian Revolution and Haiti’s independence in 1804
• Explore Haitian culture through music, art, food, geography, or national symbols
