01 February
Imbolc, also known as Imbolg or Saint Brigid’s Day, is a traditional Gaelic festival associated with the beginning of spring. In the Republic of Ireland, it is also connected with Saint Brigid, one of Ireland’s patron saints, and is now recognised as a public holiday. The day reflects seasonal change, renewal, creativity, and the blending of pre-Christian, Christian, and contemporary cultural traditions.
Event Suggestions:
• Learn about Saint Brigid, Brigid’s crosses, and Imbolc seasonal traditions
• Create a display about Gaelic festivals and the beginning of spring
• Discuss how older seasonal customs and Christian traditions can overlap
