Hip Hop Appreciation Day

Hip Hop Appreciation Day recognises the birth and influence of hip hop culture, often linked to DJ Kool Herc’s 1973 party in the Bronx. The day celebrates hip hop’s creative elements, including MCing, DJing, breakdancing, graffiti and beatboxing, and its global impact on music, art and community expression.

Event Suggestions:
• Exploring the five elements of hip hop through music, movement and visual art
• Creating a timeline of hip hop’s roots in the Bronx and global influence
• Hosting a respectful showcase of DJing, lyric writing, beatboxing or dance
