Feast of St Basil

The Feast of St Basil honours Saint Basil the Great, an important bishop, theologian, and leader in the Orthodox Christian tradition. The day is celebrated in many Greek and other Orthodox homes with customs such as baking Vasilopita, a special cake with a hidden coin, visiting family and friends, and singing New Year’s carols. The feast connects faith, hospitality, generosity, and the beginning of the new year.
