Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is a major festival celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists in different ways. Often called the Festival of Lights, it symbolises light overcoming darkness, good overcoming evil and renewal of hope. Celebrations may include lamps, prayers, family gatherings, sweets, rangoli, fireworks and acts of generosity.
