Coming of the Light, also known as Keriba Lagaw Buiya, commemorates the arrival of Christianity in the Torres Strait Islands in 1871. The day remembers the meeting at Erub Island and the way Christianity became woven into Torres Strait Islander identity and Ailan Kastom. It is observed through church services, hymns, feasting, re-enactments and community gatherings.
