Black History Month begins

Black History Month began in the United States and grew from earlier efforts led by historian Carter G. Woodson to promote the study of Black history. The month recognises the achievements, struggles, cultures, and contributions of Black communities, while encouraging deeper learning about racism, resistance, creativity, and social change. It is now observed in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, at different times of the year.

Event Suggestions:
• Create a display highlighting Black leaders, artists, thinkers, activists, and community stories
• Explore local and global Black history through books, music, film, or oral histories
• Discuss how Black History Month supports learning, recognition, justice, and cultural pride
