22 June
Windrush Day marks the anniversary of the 1948 arrival of Caribbean migrants on the Empire Windrush, many of whom were recruited to support Britain’s post-war recovery. The day recognises the contributions of the Windrush Generation and their descendants, while also acknowledging the discrimination and injustice many experienced. It is not a public holiday, but it is observed through education, community events and cultural celebration.
Event Suggestions:
• Explore stories, music and cultural contributions of the Windrush Generation
• Create a timeline of Caribbean migration to the UK
• Discuss belonging, discrimination and community resilience
