06 March

European Day of the Righteous

The European Day of the Righteous was established on March 6 to commemorate all those who stand up against totalitarianism and crimes against humanity and fight for the life and dignity of others. Proclaimed by the European Parliament in 2012, the day honors those who stand up against crimes against humanity. The inspiration and concept for the day come from Yad Vashem, Israel’s official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, and the Garden of the Righteous Among the Nations, which aims to pay tribute to non-Jews who took personal risks to protect and save Jews during the Holocaust.

Event suggestions:
• Sharing oral histories preserving courage, loss, and resilience
• Creating tribute walls with names, symbols, and memories
• Listening to testimony circles centred on dignity and collective memory
