04 September
Indigenous Literacy Day is observed in Australia on the first Wednesday of September. Hosted by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, the day raises awareness of literacy access in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and celebrates First Nations languages, stories and cultures. It also supports fundraising for books, resources and community-led literacy programs.
Event Suggestions:
• Sharing First Nations stories, books or language resources with appropriate cultural context
• Creating a display about Indigenous literacy, languages and community-led learning
• Supporting a fundraiser or book activity for remote community literacy programs
