16 October
Sukkot is a Jewish festival that recalls the Israelites’ journey through the desert after leaving slavery in Egypt. Many Jewish families and communities build a sukkah, a temporary hut with a leafy roof through which the sky can be seen, and the festival is associated with gratitude, hospitality, harvest, and trust in divine protection.
Event Suggestions:
• Learn about the sukkah, harvest symbols, and traditions of hospitality
• Create a respectful display about Sukkot and Jewish festival practices
• Discuss how temporary shelters can symbolise memory, gratitude, and faith
