19 October

Ethnicity day (Estonia)

Ethnicity Day is a cultural holiday celebrated in Estonia on the third Saturday of October. This day is dedicated to Estonia’s unique language and cultural identity, national culture, and the day when Estonians think about other Finno-Ugric nations, introduce their languages and cultures, and speak of their problems. The holiday was approved by the Estonian parliament in 2011. Ethnicity Day showcases Estonia to the world, promotes tourism in the country, and boosts the economy.

Event Suggestions:
• Explore Estonian language and links with other Finno-Ugric cultures
• Create a display about cultural identity, language preservation, and heritage
• Discuss why minority languages and cultural traditions need support
