Hanamatsuri, or the Flower Festival, is the Japanese observance of Buddha’s Birthday. It is usually celebrated on 8 April with flower-decorated altars, temple visits and the pouring of sweet tea over small statues of the baby Buddha. The festival reflects gratitude, compassion and the beauty of spring.
