U Tirot Sing Day commemorates U Tirot Sing Syiem, a Khasi chief who resisted British expansion in the early nineteenth century in present-day Meghalaya, India. He is remembered as a freedom fighter and symbol of courage, leadership and Indigenous resistance. The day honours Khasi history, identity and the defence of community autonomy.
