Guanacaste Day, also known as Annexation of Nicoya Day, commemorates the 1824 decision of the Partido de Nicoya to join Costa Rica. The day is especially significant in Guanacaste and celebrates regional identity, music, dance, food and traditions. It highlights Costa Rican history as well as the cultural pride of the Guanacaste region.
